I have been going the Starlite Car Cruise in Wexford, PA for about six years now. For the past three years there was always a rumor at the end of the season that this was the last year. But when the new cruising season was upon us and you would check the car cruise websites there it was in black and white another season. At the end of last year the rumors were at an all time high but I still thought they were just that! RUMORS! I am sad to report that this will be the final season for this great cruise. This cruise was one of the biggest events on a Friday night east of the Mississippi River for over fifteen years. Not being from this area and not knowing the full history of the cruise this is what I can tell you.
The cruise was started by Dr. Jay Passavant and others in 2000 at the Northway Christian Community Church. From what I am told the first cruise had thirty cars. The cruise with it's spacious paved parking grew to over a thousand cars on a Friday night. On certain night's if you did not get there by 3pm you were out of luck because the lots were full. The cruise runs from 5pm to 9pm and to this day there are still people hanging out till almost midnight just talking cars. On rain out days when there is no cruise with no DJ or food vendors there will still be over fifty cars in the lot. Almost every car cruise in the area was compared to Wexford Starlite. I have heard many people say at other car cruises “ This is a nice cruise but it's no Wexford”. I have made some of my best friends in this area at Starlite Wexford. Dave the photo guy Anderson (Photo Dave) and Dave Rodenbaugh owner of the Pennsylvania Hot Rod Company plus countless acquaintances throughout the years. Talking to car people around the area they would say “See you at Wexford Friday”. Photo Dave and I would say that Friday at Wexford was like our bowling league night. It is just a fun place to be. There are many rumors spreading as to why this is the final season and I do not know fact from fiction but I can tell you that I am just sad that this great cruise is coming to an end as all good things eventually do. People will still compare every car cruise in this area for years to come to this cruise but the way I see it there will not be another Wexford Starlite Car Cruise type event in this area for years to come. As DJ Denny Dutko always says “The place to be every Friday night for great cars, bikes, music, food, and especially the people”.
I would like to personally THANK all the volunteers for always doing a GREAT job and always making me feel welcome.
“See you at the next one” Jay from the Net Auto Store.com Team.
