A few weeks ago while on a road trip we stopped into Mongoose Motorsports / Portage Trim in Ravenna, OH. Mongoose Motorsports is well known for building the GM licensed 1963 Corvette GrandSport and GTP cars. Gary the owner and Tricia the Office manager took time out of their busy schedule to show us around. Mongoose Motorsports is housed in an old new car dealership and they need every inch of the building to accomplish all that makes up this company. Starting with the showroom which has cars they built for the Fast and Furious movies to a few completed GrandSports and other magazine quality cars. Next it was back to the production rooms where some of the crew were hand laying fiberglass into molds which will produce GrandSport bodies. Then it was on to the fab shop where they were finishing up a few GrandSport frames. There were several new GrandSports being built for new customers. What I was impressed with most is that almost all work is completed in house which is why a while back Mongoose Motorsports purchased Portage Trim so they could also offer award winning custom interiors without leaving the building. The idea being you could have a complete project built all at one location from fabrication, paint and body, to interior and final assembly. As we walked into each department there were wall to wall projects including some really nice custom builds in all stages to a semi truck in for a full custom interior. Gary told us they will be at the Piston Power Show at the IX Center Cleveland, OH coming up in a week or so. If you get a chance stop by and check out their work for yourself. I would like to thank Jim Rombold from CJ Rombold Engine Builders for taking me along and for also taking the detour to Columbus, OH to pick up a vehicle. Jim and myself can always turn a couple hours into an all day event!
